TO ALL POST MEMBERS:
As discussed at our last few Post meetings, as documented in our meeting minutes that came out yesterday and has shown on our web page, there is a major veteran support event coming up in Wilmington in March. This event, called a Veteran Benefit Experience Center (VBEC), will be held on March 22-23-24 at the Elks Lodge located at 5102 Oleander Dr.
At a similar event held in Wilmington in March 2017, over 20 employees from the VA Regional Office Winston Salem, supported by local Veteran Service Officers and other veteran organization personnel, conducted on site meetings with over 780 veterans seeking assistance over a 3-day period. Approximately $2 million in benefits was paid out to those veterans. The 2018 event is expected to be even larger with a greater number of veterans being helped with a broader range of services, including specific activities focused on homeless veterans.
One of the most critical keys to success is the presence onsite of a large number of volunteers. Those volunteers will assist with registration, escorting veterans to seating and assistance stations, data entry, and working directly with VA personnel. We need volunteers to work the following shifts:
Wednesday, 3/21 3pm – 9pm. This is shift is for setting up the facility, arranging the seating area and preparing the assistance stations. Basically preparing the area for business.
Thursday, 3/22 First shift 7:30am – 1:30 pm
Second shift 1:00pm– 7:00pm
Friday, 3/23 First shift 7:30am – 1:30 pm
Second shift 1:00pm – 7:00pm
Saturday, 3/24 First shift 7:30am – 1:30pm
Second shift 1:00pm – 7:00pm
Third shift 4:00pm – 9:00pm This shift is for taking down the facilities, seating and assistance stations.
Please respond to us with the days and shifts for which you would like to volunteer to support this critical event to provide assistance to fellow veterans. In order to allow us sufficient time to put our plans together, please respond by Friday, February 9th. Note – there is no problem if you want to work multiple shifts!
Please let us know if you have any questions or need any additional information.
Your support and assistance is greatly appreciated.
