JROTC - North Brunswick High School

In keeping with its mission to support the youth of Leland, NC, the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 Leland, NC presents annual military and scholastic excellence awards and a college scholarship to deserving North Brunswick High School JROTC Cadets. The award recipients are selected based on strict criteria and the recommendations of JROTC Senior Army Instructor, COL Steven Baker, US Army Retired, and JROTC Army Instructor, First Sergeant George Williams, US Army Retired.

The North Brunswick High School (NBHS) Army JROTC program (Scorpion Battalion), located in Leland, NC, is a highly decorated unit recognized for its elite marksmanship, recently securing the #1 ranking among Army JROTC rifle teams nationwide. The program focuses on developing leadership, discipline, and citizenship through specialized training, including armed/unarmed drill teams and a nationally competitive air rifle team.

 

Key Details About NBHS JROTC:

  • National Recognition: The NBHS JROTC Rifle Team won 1st place at the 2024/2025 Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) National 3PAR Championship.

​

  • Instructors: The program is led by experienced instructors, including COL Steven Baker, 1SG George Williams, and SFC William Bass.

​

  • Curriculum & Activities: The curriculum focuses on leadership education training (LET), uniform inspections, and drill. Extracurricular activities include armed and unarmed drill teams and a precision air rifle team.

​

  • Community Impact: The Scorpion Battalion is active in the community, hosting events such as the 9/11 ceremony.

​

  • Benefits: Cadets gain skills in discipline, organization, and goal-setting, with opportunities for college scholarships and advancement. 

​

The JROTC pledge:

"I will always conduct myself to bring credit to my family, country, school and the Corps of Cadets. I am loyal and patriotic. I am the future of the United States of America. I do not lie, cheat or steal and will always be accountable for my actions and deeds. I will always practice good citizenship and patriotism."
