POWERS APPOINTED TO BELVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD

At the August 2026 meeting of the Belville Board of Commissioners, Belville Mayor Charles Bost appointed and swore in Thomas M. Powers (Tom) as a new member of the Belville Parks & Recreation Board. In that role, Powers will serve as a bridge between town residents and local government and provide recommendations to the town commissioners on park development, improvements, and community recreational events and needs.

His new role dovetails with the role Powers assumed in May, when he became the youngest elected leader of the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 in Leland. Under the theme of Connection, Collaboration, and Service, Post 68 will expand its community work to make the community a better place to live. This effort includes outreach to and engagement with active-duty and transitioning military personnel.

Since 2025, Tom has been an active member of Post 68. His extensive military and business background has instilled in him a strong appreciation for collaboration, teamwork, and outreach. As a local small business owner, Tom understands the value of collaboration and of building and expanding relationships within the community, including local service providers, religious organizations, First Responders, elected officials, business owners, and veteran organizations. He firmly believes that service, whether to the country or the community, does not end when a military member hangs up their uniform upon transitioning to civilian life.
